It’s Time to Increase and Subdue!

A FAITH-FILLED, PROPHETIC WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT!

December 31, 2024

BY CRYSTAL G.H. LOWERY

Genesis 1:28 MEV –

“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it…’”

Happy New Year!  It’s January again and time to head into a brand-new year with renewed energy, hopes, dreams, and goals with that wonderful thing called FAITH!  No matter what you accomplished this last year and no matter your successes, this is a time to reset and begin afresh!

There are times allocated and set apart by God for us to refresh and rejuvenate.  Typically, we think of the seventh day or Sabbath day rest.  However, there are times throughout the year and in life that we can use as markers to evaluate, adjust, redirect, or maybe just stay on course.  I do this on birthdays especially and turning one year older really makes me think and evaluate myself to see if I am where God has created and designed me to be.  Another of these markers is when a new calendar year begins.  So, here we are at the beginning of January…ready to begin a fresh new year full of possibilities.

I think about the intelligence and wisdom of God and how He created.  He started with the end and then went back to the beginning.  This is the opposite of how human conventional wisdom operates.  It’s like the difference of being right-side up or up-side down.  We need to get the vision.  As it tells us in Habakkuk, we need to write the vision and make it plain so whoever reads it can run with it (or carry it out to completion).

We have just gotten to the end of a year.  I’m sure that some are excited about where they are and others are feeling disappointment.  I just watched someone live on social media who said this was one of the worst years of her life.  I can understand and empathize, knowing that something happened in her family that was truly heartbreaking.  I’m not talking about those kinds of events in life, such as a death of a family member, which is what happened in this person’s case.  However, I am talking about the things that God has put on your heart and the purpose for which He created you.  I truly believe that we perish when we don’t even have the vision.  We desperately need to get ahold of the vision first to see where we are supposed to be headed.

Have you ever gone on a road trip and put in the address in your GPS?  Have you ever just started the car and headed in a general direction hoping to get somewhere you’re hoping is nice, but you aren’t really sure where exactly?  That would be a little crazy.  It would be a time waster.  How do you know what to pack?  How long will you be gone?  How do you know where you will stay?  This is a little absurd, but people do it all the time, not necessarily to get to a specific address on the map for an appointment or a vacation, but with their VERY LIFE!

It’s time to put blinders on the horses, to take hold of the reigns, and set the GPS for the destination, get prepared for the journey, and stop wondering around on all the roads at every intersection or turn.  We were born for such a time as this.  There are people counting on us to do what God designed and created us to do.  We need to live a life on purpose and for His purpose.

After God created man, He did something extraordinary.  He blessed them.  We are blessed!!!  God also said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it…” (Genesis 1:28 MEV). This is crucial.  God didn’t just say this to Adam and Eve because there weren’t any other people yet.  Sometimes, I think we really miss the point here.  Yes, they did need to procreate so other people could be born, but there is way more to it than that.

God wants us, His creation, to be fruitful and multiply in every area of our life.  We are called to replenish and subdue.  Subdue means to bring under submission.  We are given dominion of the world around us.  We are not meant to be passive every day, just waking up whenever to do whatever and then fall asleep again.  We are meant to bear fruit which produces more fruit until we reap orchards.  We can do this, and we have been blessed by our Creator and spoken over by His Word to accomplish this.

I pray this same blessing over you and speak words of fruitfulness and multiplication over every area of your life this year.  May you know the vision God created for your life and may you run towards it with the help and grace of God.  I pray that you harvest orchards and that you subdue the harsh, chaos, and barrenness around you, taming it and bringing it back into submission to the blessing.  I pray that you wake and walk with purpose, every step full of faith because He who walks beside you is Faithful.  Based On Faith.
