A FAITH-FILLED, PROPHETIC WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT!

Here we go again.
Didn’t I just spent 40 minutes washing, drying, and putting a sink full of dishes away and wiping down counter tops? Now, everyone is hungry again and wanting lunch. That means, I will have to get out everything for lunch, get the plates back out that I just washed and dried and put away and for the next hour spend fixing lunch, eating lunch, and cleaning all over again. Then, I’ll get a few hours and depending on what we are having for lunch, do it all over again for dinner. This is not to mention that other things seem to constantly happen like piles of laundry, cleaning the lint filter, sweeping, making beds, vacuuming…oh, and did I forget flossing! All day, every day this happens until ultimately, I stagger to the tub for my evening ritual bath that will inevitably end up being interrupted by the repeated words “Mom” at least 7 times!
Do you have a similar story? For you, it could be piles of files to go through at work that never ends. You try to aim for the mountain top of files to be disintegrated to lower the mountain, but instead it seems to stay the same or even get taller. Or…did you just mow the grass for hours last week, weed eat, and edge only to find that with all the sun and rain it is just as tall again? I could give plenty of examples of the tasks that seem to take over the precious minutes and hours we have every day and every week.
Miles of piles of files, the mundane tasks, the repetitive chores, and the never ending to-dos of life….do they have you weary and discouraged?
I recently felt this way after a few weeks of constant pressure from all of this and I started to feel worn down and extremely tired. I knew I had to renew my mind to how God wants me to see these ordinary tasks that come again and again, especially the ones that seem to happen daily like washing loads of dishes and cleaning countertops.
I was thinking, “How can I make progress in these other areas (the big areas of life) if I keep having to spend all this time on these things (the little areas of life)?” Well, do you know what changed my daily routine? I had to change my mind set about what the big things and the small things really are in life.
Sometimes, we have the rhetoric correct, but not the mindset. We can say in front of people, “I give God every area of my life” or “God is number one in my life” or “My life is a sacrifice of praise to God” when, in reality, we are not living that way. We need an adjustment in how we think sometimes to get us in alignment with those words we so boldly profess.
We think that the big things we do in the Christian life are mission trips to Africa or South America, writing books, or a schedule filled with speaking engagements. Although those things are good, even great, they really are not the big things in life. The big things are what we think of as the small things. I’ve heard people say, “The way you do anything is how you do everything.” This is so true. If we can’t keep the “small” things straight and organized in our daily life, then how can we possibly work on what we thought was so big?
When we do great with little, more will be added. We must worship God not only in the great crusades we idealize, but also in putting away the dishes each day. We must lay our life down not only in publicly boldly proclaiming Christ to the world, but also in a life of sacrifice while we make our bed each morning.
In each task we undertake, we have the opportunity to not only do it, but do it well, and with an attitude of service that is pleasing to God. As you go about your day making the bed, a sweet aroma of praise will ascend to the Throne of God. As you help your child with their math for the day, a fragrance so pure and holy will ascend to the Father. And…as you shout from platforms across the world, the aroma of a life laid down will be so pleasing to our God.
Take time to remind yourself today that the things that seem to slow you down like folding the towels or putting gas in the car can and are just as pleasing, if not more pleasing to God if you do each and every one with the mind set and faith posture that lifts each one to Him in worship.
May we all take time to do the dishes today.
Colossians 3:17 (MEV) – “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
