I will be honest. I have never really paid attention to things like “Women’s History Month.” I have always felt that if we think correctly and look through the eyes and lens of God, we are all his creation and are made in his image. We are made for a purpose and God knew us before we were even created. There is a destiny he created for each of us and we need to just say “Yes” to him and listen and obey. It has never mattered to me that I am female. To my knowledge, I have never been treated less than or more than any other person just because I am female. I want my character and work to show for itself. That will shine on my behalf. If I am doing what I am supposed to be doing and obeying, then God will bless my obedience and promote me and lead me to the next step – and He always has.
Something was different this morning as I saw a post flash across my screen saying that March is Women’s History Month. I actually gasped and felt heaviness come upon me. I just knew that I must write about this in a not-so-traditional way.
This article is for women and men equally.
When we focus on our history, we are looking behind. We are not just emphasizing what has happened, we are facing that direction and not looking forward. We are created to go forward. Our eyes are on the front of our faces, our feet face forward, and every part of our body is made with forward motion in mind. An airplane points forward and upward or else it will crash. We absolutely cannot move forward while we are at the same time focusing on the past. We must learn from the past. That is not what I am emphasizing. We must absolutely learn from the past. But we must as a priority not emphasize the past or our heads start to turn and we will start to stumble from not looking forward.
If we really want something great, we need to celebrate Women’s Future, not History. The only way we can do this is to know our identity in Christ. This will NEVER be accomplished through the world’s ways and inferior methods.
I don’t believe that we can do that without knowing who we are. We can’t know that until we know our Creator. Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) says: “And God said, Let us make man (humankind, male and female) in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him male and female created he them.” (Parenthesis mine.)
We are made in the image of God. We are made in the likeness of God. When we look in the mirror, we see a reflection of his image and his likeness. God wanted to put himself in us. He created us to be an extension of him. We are his children. Therefore, we resemble him in our characteristics and in our spiritual DNA. It is clear that we come from God.
In Genesis, God gave man dominion over every thing that creeps on the earth…that means ourselves as well. Sometimes, we read this passage and we just associate birds, fish, and other animals with what we have dominion over, but this is not true. We have dominion over ourselves – over our minds, our wills, and our emotions.
If we look at the the Word of God, we look into a spiritual mirror and in that we will discover our true identity. “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and gets his way, and straightway forgeteth what manner of man he was, but whoso looketh into the perfect law of Liberty [God’s Word – specifically the New Testament], and continue the therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed” (James 1:23-25 KJV, brackets mine).
God’s Word is our spiritual mirror. It always and perfectly reflects WHO we REALLY are – our identity in CHRIST. We must learn to look at and trust this truth and spiritual reality we see in the Word of God.
Most people and for that matter, most Christians unfortunately, are dominated by what they see, taste, hear, smell, and touch, instead of God’s Word. The flow of life within stays turned off because they don’t believe anything they can’t see (which is FAITH). It’s not real to most people if they can’t perceive it through their natural senses. But, it’s imperative that we renew our mind to TRUTH…to the Word of God.
Hopefully, you’ve settled the issue once and for all that the Bible is the Word of God and that it is absolute truth and is not relative to the whims and opinions of the world, but is a standard we carry high! If you haven’t settled this issue, I highly recommend you do it now. Otherwise, you will always wrestle with the issues of life with no foundation that is formed from rock-solid truth.
Ephesians 4:17 KJV says, “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind.” Believers shouldn’t live like lost people who are trapped in their carnal, physical world. As women of God, we have NOTHING to prove. We know WHO we are and we live just like a daughter of the King, because that’s who we are. We don’t have an agenda to prove – we only have our Father’s agenda. We are transformed women, not conformed women.
As Mary, the mother of Jesus said to the archangel Gabriel, “Be it unto me.” Like Mary, my only answer is “Yes.” My “Yes” has no qualification, no hidden or selfish motive…nothing but “Yes.”
I am who I am because of who He is! That is my identity. Period.
We are now celebrating Purim, a time when we honor and celebrate Esther, a Jewish woman, placed in the King’s palace, at just the right time, to be a voice of deliverance and freedom for her people, who were imminently facing death. Esther knew her identity. She could have backed away in fear from her assignment at that moment. But because she knew who she was, she stepped into her role and became the voice of deliverance for her people. The executioner, Haman, became the executed. The tables turned and a shift occurred because of this one woman.
Now, women of God (and men – all of us) – Esthers – you are positioned in just the right place at just the right time. So, go and fulfill your destiny because you know who you really are. You have no agenda other than the King’s agenda. And, you are here, right now, for such a time as this.
“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance shall arise for the Jews from elsewhere, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the kingdom FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS AND FOR THIS VERY OCCASION?” (Esther 4:14 AMP, caps mine.) BASED ON FAITH.
