Galatians 3:29 KJV – And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Numbers 23:19 AMP – God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?
Acts 10:34 AMP – And Peter opened his mouth and said: Most certainly and thoroughly I now perceive and understand that God shows no partiality and is no respecter of persons,…
Have you ever been disappointed or even angry by someone else’s actions, especially when you had an agreement? No doubt, not just once, but many times is probably your answer. If so, you are not alone. This has been my experience as well.
I do not want to discourage you, but as long as you are making agreements with people, you may be disappointed. Humans have shortcomings, even if they are not intended.
The good news is that this does not have to be your experience, specifically regarding the most important agreement or covenant – God’s covenant to BLESS us! God made this covenant to Abraham (and was his will for mankind since the beginning). I think of this BLESSING as all the good that ever could be available for my benefit. I am allowed to believe that and receive that BLESSING because of Galatians 3:29 which says that if I am Christ’s (receiving what Christ did for me with His finished work), then I am Abraham’s seed, and Abraham’s heir (bloodline for inheritance) according to the promise. There is no need for me to analyze this any further. I can rest in the absolute fact that I am Abraham’s heir and the inheritance of the BLESSING is mine. This BLESSING is mine through a covenant.
This covenant is far different than any agreements or contracts that we can enter into with humans. As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, we are setting ourselves up for a great disappointment if we are putting our faith into human contractual agreements. This is the reason why our court systems have full dockets and why we (our society) has a reputation for being litigious.
Because God entered into the covenant to BLESS us, then we can rest assured that what was promised will come to pass. God is a different kind of party to the covenant than a man. You can feel confident that He has passed the background check and no further due diligence is necessary. Numbers 23:19 tells us that “God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?” This is comforting, because if we are depending on the BLESSING to be in our lives, then we need to know that we are dealing with a party to the covenant that is not going to lie, go back on His word, or misrepresent some part of the agreement to jeopardize the BLESSING coming into our lives.
The other important part of understanding God in his covenant making is that according to Acts 10:34, He is no respecter of persons. Therefore, what He has promised, He will bring to pass. God does not show favoritism. The way that we become part of the covenant is that we “be Christ’s” then we are in a position to receive that inheritance which was promised. God does not show partiality to different believers. Simply, we must understand that we are entitled to the inheritance – the BLESSING.
The comfort that we can take in absolutely knowing that the BLESSING is ours can be looked at from the perspective of something we have in the legal world in the area of contract law called THE IMPLIED COVENANT OF GOOD FAITH AND FAIR DEALING. This means that when one enters into a contract, there is a presumption that all parties are entering into the agreement with good faith, meaning that they will try to the best of their ability to fulfill all of their obligations and they will not act in bad faith to disadvantage any of the other parties. The idea is that the contract contains benefits for all parties and everyone should receive those benefits. If this were not the case, what would be the point of entering into the contract? The idea of good faith underlies every contract in that there is an expectation of some goodness and integrity and honesty in the character of the parties to the contract. This then, would follow that the parties would behave in a manner of fairness to ensure the beneficial aspects of the contract come to pass.
Even though there is this implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing in the contract world, you know that often this is breached. This is the reason for so many law suits. The choice by people to act contrary to good faith – bad faith – leaves a bad taste in our mouth and causes us to be reluctant to enter into future contracts or causes us to become extremely cautious and want to make future agreements as difficult as possible for the other parties.
DON’T MAKE YOUR HUMAN EXPERIENCE THE STANDARD FOR YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD! Even though bad faith seems to be prevalent in our human endeavors, let me encourage you to not be reluctant to accept what God has promised you. God is far different than any human being that you will ever deal with. He is ALL GOOD, ALL KIND, ALL COMPASSIONATE, ALL CARING, ALL GIVING, AND ALL BLESSING! He can never go back on his word. Overcome your past disappointments and allow God’s Covenant to BLESS you. God does not operate under the IMPLIED covenant of good faith and fair dealing. His is an EXPRESS covenant of the GOOD-EST faith and FAIR-EST dealing. BASED ON FAITH.
