Christian Estate Planning requires knowledge which produces wisdom. We have to have knowledge about the blessings and then have the wisdom to appropriate them for ourselves. This helps us to appropriate God’s blessings in our lives. This is God’s best in terms of Christian Estate Planning.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…Hosea 4:6 AMP
Knowledge is stored information and comes from learning. Wisdom is different from knowledge and is the ability to understand or process knowledge.
It is interesting to note that the God says in the verse that his people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, not wisdom. Obviously, one cannot have wisdom without knowledge. Knowledge comes first which produces the opportunity for wisdom.
As I was reading the other day on the subject of blessings. It occurred to me that based on the book I was reading that knowledge and also wisdom is part of one’s estate. Our christian estate plan is everything we possess which creates value. This includes not only the amount in our checking account, real estate, retirement plans, etc., but other assets such as our time, our health, as well as knowledge and wisdom.
Knowledge is not something we just automatically possess. We have to do some work to get it. We have to be dedicated and eventually, over time, we will accumulate a lot of knowledge. Hopefully, this will lead to wisdom.
If we do not have knowledge, or if we have a lack of knowledge, then we are setting ourselves up for hardship and destruction.
The verse uses the verbs “are destroyed” to describe the consequences of lack of knowledge. This means that they who lack knowledge are presently destroyed.
The destruction can be of any type. It could be a family tragedy, a falling investment portfolio, a life or death situation, or living with depression. In any event, all of these examples of destruction take away value, meaning, and prosperity from our lives. Obviously, the destruction here is not part of God’s blessing for our lives.
In the process of estate planning, we must have knowledge in order for planning to occur with success. This knowledge must relate to the process of planning as well as the goals we want to achieve. Without it or even with a lack of it, we are doomed for destruction.
We are left with three options: having knowledge, having a lack of knowledge, or not having knowledge. Clearly, we should strive for the first. This is a predecessor for wisdom as well as all the blessings we are entitled to as Christians.
We must first have knowledge, then wisdom to appropriate God’s blessings in our lives. This is good estate planning. This is a good way to live. This is God’s best for us. BASED ON FAITH.
